Every significant sire comes from a strong female line...

Shamai has a truly royal dam!

Simeon Shiraz is instantly recognised, she is a mare with many fans.

In her showring days she was the flag-bearer for Simeon Stud, her biggest wins including National Champion filly, East Coast Champion filly and Australian Reserve Champion filly...

Marion says "<Shiraz> is so beautiful - she looks like a daughter of her grandmother, 27 Ibn Galal V."

An enviable show record but it becomes a truly remarkable one when you learn that this ultra-feminine mare nearly lost her life as a young horse...

Shiraz broke her shoulder as a baby and spent about three months in confinement while it healed. She did not see daylight nor step out of her box in this time and yet,  Marion notes "Shiraz never once tried to bite or put her ears back. It was such a difficult situation for a young horse, but she kept her wonderful disposition throughout."

It took Shiraz over a year to regain full soundness... to go on to have a show record like this is nothing short of amazing.

Shiraz has a most endearing temperament that she passes on to her babies and she moves with all the excellence of an Asfour daughter...

The sire of Shiraz is none other than Asfour impGermany.

A son of the big-moving Hadban Enzahi (Nazeer x Kamla) son Malik and Dr Hans Nagel's superb foundation mare, Hanan, dam of a dynasty that includes Asfour's full brother in blood Jamil...

 Malik (Hadban Enzahi x Malikah)

Hanan (Alaa El Din x Mona)

Asfour is a true breeding animal. Whilst internationally acclaimed for his own excellence and quality, the sort that renders you speechless, he is one of those wonderful stallions that is a true sire.

Asfour's get, particularly his daughters, are highly prized - not just for their great beauty but because they breed on so well. Asfour's progeny can be found on virtually every corner of the globe.

Asfour's dam Hanan was bred at the EAO, a daughter of Alaa El Din, successful racehorse in Egypt and Mona, she has a strong family of her own, a book has been written about her and her family.

Asfour is, of course, the sire of the exotic black stallion Simeon Sadik, owned by Halsdon Arabians, UK. Sadik has his own fan club, many people acclaim him to be perfection, he was an Australian Champion before his export and is also a World Reserve Champion... he too, is siring on, proving the great strength of his family.

Simeon Shiraz's dam is that "dream of a mare", as described by Marion Richmond, Simeon Shuala impUSA...

Simeon Shuala (Simeon Shai x Ramses Tinah)

This lovely mare has had a short but very successful show career winning the titles of Champion Mare at the National Arabian Stud Horse Show and Australian Reserve National Champion mare.

Shuala was bred in the USA after her sire Simeon Shai was sold to America.

In the USA, Simeon Shai gained world acclaim by winning Scottsdale, US National and Canadian Champion stallion all in the same year... the Triple Crown! Very few horses have won this honour but Shai also won World Champion at the Salon Du Cheval in Paris that same year... making his own unique place in history!

Shai has also gone on to be a very significant sire in the US... he has sired 6 US National winners, among them the wonderful mare Shaia. He is still making his mark and now stands at Silver Maple Farms.

Shai's sire was Ra'Adin Royal Star (ET Crown Prince x Om Khamsa, a Tuhotmos daughter), a colt Marion chose for Homeleigh Arabians when he was still a young foal... although he tragically died before he could fulfill his promise, the handful of progeny he left behind have more than made their mark...

Shai's dam is the great broodmare Simeon Safanad. This priceless mare was a daughter of Sankt Georg RSI (Ansata El Salim x Bint El Bataa) and Simeon Stud's foundation (Egyptian) mare 27 Ibn Galal V (Ibn Galal x 10 Hosna), the first ever Australian Champion mare. See her photo above...

Galal had an incredibly strong pedigree, being a double Nazeer, double El Sareei great granddaughter, her four great granddams all being great breeding mares also... Farasha, Yousreia, Maisa and Roda, she was a paternal granddaughter of the wonderful mare black mare Mogha.

Galal left an amazing legacy, particularly through her lovely daughters Safanad, Sheba and Sukari - she provided a very solid foundation for the future generations at Simeon Stud.

Simeon Safanad will always be remembered as the dam of such great stallions as Simeon Shai and his half brothers Simeon Sadik, the black "million dollar horse" by Asfour, his exotic full brother Simeon Stav at Pearsons View Arabians in QLD and Simeon Solomon, the performance horse extraordinaire by Al Karim Jabal Ibn Moniet at Slipstream Arabians in VIC. Her daughters too are proving the strength of this line, visit Simeon Stud to read more about them...

The dam of Simeon Shuala is Ramses Tinah, a daughter of the awesome performance horse Ramses Fayek and the mare Ramses Nagdia, both imports from the EAO.

Ramses Fayek (Nazeer x Fayza II)

In an article in the Australian Arabian Horse News, December 1998, Marion says "I already knew I wanted a daughter of the great Ramses Fayek... He was a wonderful stallion, a good racehorse and also one of the most conformationally correct Arabian stallions I have ever seen. I had to have the bloodlines of Ramses Fayek in our breeding programme."

Ramses Nagdia, the dam of Ramses Tinah, was also very strongly bred... she is a daughter of the Anter son Wahag and from the Morafic daughter Zahda (from Om El Saad, one of the EAO's premier broodmares)... a pedigree straight from the desert.

Ramses Tinah (Ramses Fayek EAO x Ramses Nagdia EAO), has added her own wonderful movement and structure to this line... once she had produced Simeon Shuala, Marion purchased her as an aged mare and brought her to Australia.

Simeon Shuala was mated to Asfour and a new "nick" was discovered...

The first foal of this mating was a liver chestnut colt, Simeon Shemini who was exported to Gerzanne Stud, NZ where he won all the top show awards and has sired countless champions, some of which are making a name for themselves in the Middle East...

The second foal was our favourite! Simeon Shiraz, she was followed by...

The grey mare Simeon Samir, owned by Jai-Rhan Arabians, one of the most beautiful and admired Asfour daughters anywhere...

The next sibling was the exotic grey stallion Simeon Sharav, who was exported to the Albadeia Stud in Egypt. Simeon Sharav has won at the Egyptian Nationals and also on the European show circuit... not bad for an Aussie!

An illustrious family indeed!

Marion says of Shiraz, the dam of our Simeon Shamai... "<Shuala> foaled a liver chestnut filly with spectacular floating movement - another 'Sukari' - a filly that gave me goosebumps and still does. Simeon Shiraz was our new star".

Simeon Shiraz - East Coast Champion by Julie Wilson

We love this photo of Shiraz, it shows her smooth perfection off so well!

Katy was at this show spectating and this was when she fell for this filly!

Shiraz is, to us, as close to perfect as a mare can be - from her beautiful face, to her swan-like neck, her wonderfully laid-back shoulder... her long forearm-cannon ratio... her excellent depth of girth, her short back (she is on the square - as long as she is tall)... her fantastic hindquarter and tail-set... her sound legs and feet...

Shiraz is just divine and when she moves, you get so swept up in the moment, the details become a blur!

To have her son Shamai is very much a dream-come-true!
